Cambo WHFR-80 Mounted with the RPM-XCD Adapter
When Hasselblad released their 4.0 firmware update for the X2D 100c last November, it made a lot of Hasselblad owners very happy. Especially users using this camera for copy work, such as cultural heritage. One of the things that the 4.0 firmware did was to support a new 4-shot mode to capture 100MP true full color images when using their Phocus software.
Hasselblad X2D 100c Firmware Update 4.0 – What’s New!
Although Hasselblad makes many excellent lenses for the X2D 100c, for those photographers specializing in cultural heritage copy work and using the new 4-shot mode for the highest possible resolution, questions came up about what lenses would work best for this type of work. One of the best high-performance macro lenses for scales from 1:4 to 4:1 is the Rodenstock 105mm F5.6 HR Digaron Macro lens.
But you say, although that might be a fantastic lens, it is made for a compact view camera such as the Cambo ACTUS-G View Camera body. However, if you do not need all the view camera movements and want a solution with fewer moving parts, read on.
Cambo makes a very slick solution to directly mount various lenses like the Rodenstock 105mm to the X2D body. It is the Cambo RPM-XCD Helical Focusing mount system.
While the primary focus of this article is using the 105mm lens with the Hasselblad X2D, the RPM-XCD can be used to adapt various Rodenstock & Schneider lenses that are copal 0, copal 1 size or M39 thread as well. It works by mounting the helical directly to the Hasselblad X2D and then using the plates and extenders shown above to accept different lenses and increase magnification.
It is a very slick solution marrying the camera quality of the Hasselblad X2D in multi-shot mode to the highest quality lenses for doing copy work. One caveat is that the Hasselblad X cameras do not have focal plane shutters. Therefore, this system needs to be used with the camera’s on-sensor shutter.
If you would like to read more about multi-shot technology, here is a blog post that I did when Fuji introduced their version of multi-shot called Pixel-Shift.

Cambo also makes this same helical system to fit the Fujifilm GFX.
